Text from Image: On the night of her first school dance, she asked her mother what she thought. She replied “you don’t dress a pig up unless ya gonna eat it”

Moffatt: IMPACT, CRUSH, COLD

This piece of artwork was from Tracey Moffatt’s series of images “Scarred For Life II”. The materials used in this piece of artwork is just paper. What makes it a piece of artwork is the image. The image was produced by taking a photo of the girl in this pose then printed with the offset print method, according to Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery website. This printing method doesn’t give the image the best of quality, thus giving it a worn feeling as though it was very old. A text is then added to the canvas to explain the scenario. This helps produce a feeling that as if this photo was part of a memory, and hence make us think of what will happen when the girl grows up and what affects these words will have on her.

Gascoigne: ORDER, FOLLOW, INFLUENTIAL

According to the Rosyln Oxley9 Gallery website, this piece of work was made from retro reflective road signs on wood. The production method was finding these materials, which were basically discarded by others, and put them into use by modifying their size and shape, then joining many of these modified road signs together and thus creating a new image and a new piece of art. Although the method is simple, the formation and order these road signs are aligned is what makes it into a fine piece of art. Also the fact that many of the materials chosen in her art were previously used and therefore worn out or weathered played a significant part in delivering her messages and giving her artwork a very distinctive style among artists.
